About Maya

Maya K. Grey is a Certified Family Law Specialist, accredited by the California State Bar. With a deep commitment to helping individuals navigate some of life’s most challenging and emotional moments, Maya excels in providing personalized, compassionate, and practical solutions.

Her expertise lies in one-on-one consultations, where she supports clients in a variety of situations, from mediation and second opinions to those looking to handle family law matters independently. Maya also assists clients with pre-marital and post-marital agreements and handles all aspects of divorce, legal separation, and parentage actions—including child custody, child support, spousal support, and complex property division. She firmly believes that the most cost-effective and favorable outcomes are often reached through negotiated settlements outside of court, avoiding the need for litigation whenever possible. Maya’s approach is grounded in honesty and transparency, providing clients with the advice they need to make informed decisions and achieve the best possible results for their unique situations.

As a trained divorce mediator, Maya specializes in guiding parties through the process of finding mutually beneficial solutions while educating them on their legal rights. She completed an intensive 40-hour mediation training through the Center for Understanding in Conflict and volunteers as a mediator for the Contra Costa County Family Court Volunteer Mediator Settlement Program. Maya’s mediation style emphasizes empowering her clients to create solutions that align with their interests and goals, with a focus on clear, understandable legal information throughout the process.

In addition to her family law practice, Maya assists families with uncontested adoptions. She completed the rigorous ALTO (Adoption Law Training Online) program under the guidance of renowned adoption attorneys Alison Foster Davis and Douglas Donnelly. Helping clients complete the adoption process and welcoming new family members is a source of great joy for Maya.

Maya holds a J.D. from the University of San Francisco (USF) School of Law, where she was President of the Equal Justice Society and gained valuable experience through internships with the San Francisco District Attorney's Office, USF Child Advocacy Clinic, Legal Aid of Marin, and Metoyer Law Offices. During her law school career, she was honored with the 2009 USF Women Lawyer’s Committee Scholarship for Transitional Students and the 2011 Wiley W. Manuel Award for Pro Bono Legal Services.

Before founding her own firm in 2020, Maya spent over seven years practicing at the highly respected firm Blum, Gibbs, Davies & Owen, LLP. She is a member of the Alameda County Bar and the Contra Costa County Bar Associations.

Maya’s background is unique in that she spent five years teaching second and third grade before pursuing law. She holds a Bachelor of Arts in Psychology and a Masters in Education from UCLA, which deepened her understanding of human behavior and communication—skills she continues to apply in her family law practice.

Maya speaks French and has explored more than 25 countries around the world. When she’s not working, she enjoys spending time with her family and friends, dancing, watching Netflix, reading, and listening to music and podcasts.
