  • We know that no two family law cases are alike.  We tailor our strategies to your specific circumstances, working towards resolutions that align with your goals.

  • We empower you with the information and resources needed to make choices that align with your best interests.

When Legal Representation is Essential

  • If your case requires legal expertise, we'll guide you through the complexities, ensuring your rights and interests are protected at every step along the way.

  • We value transparent and open communication.  We'll keep you informed throughout your case, allowing you to make educated decisions.

  • We understand the emotional toll that family matters can take.  Our approach is client-centered, ensuring you feel supported throughout the legal process.

Whether you need comprehensive legal support or just guidance on specific aspects of your case, Grey Family Law is here for you.  Empower yourself with the right legal support.

Mediation

Mediation is one of the most powerful tools you can choose to help take control over your family law issues. At Grey Family Law, we use an understanding-based approach to mediation, which centers around the principle that those in conflict are the ones who hold the keys to unlocking resolution by having conversations that foster empathy, understanding, and connection.  By gaining an understanding of your own views, the other party’s views, and the legal and practical reality around you, we believe that you can achieve lasting, transformative change.

Meeting

Mediation is an entirely voluntary and confidential process.  The parties, and not the mediator, are the ones who make the decisions throughout the sessions.  The mediator serves as a neutral advocate and does not give any legal advice.  Instead, the mediator strives to help parties communicate in an authentic way where they can share information and brainstorm together to invent creative solutions.  Most people find that mediation is more cost-effective, quicker, and less stressful than fighting in court.

At Grey Family Law, we help parties think holistically about their case, and take the additional step of educating them about California law so that they can make informed decisions throughout the process.  We want to help parties retain control over their lives by making decisions that are right for them, rather than giving up that power to other lawyers and judges who do not know them at all.

We’re here to help you with a range of family law matters, including child custody and visitation, child and spousal support, property issues, and parentage issues.  Contact us today for more information or to set up a consultation.

Adoptions

Types of adoptions:

  • Adult Adoption

  • Second Parent 'Confirmatory' Adoption
  • Traditional Step-Parent Adoption

Adopting a child can be one of the most joyous and satisfying events in a person's life.   However, navigating the various legal steps and required paperwork can be challenging.   At Grey Family Law, we strive to make the adoption process as smooth and stress-free as possible.  We will take care of all the paperwork, file the appropriate forms with the court, guide you through the investigation and hearing process (if required), and help you order a new birth certificate naming you as the adoptive parent.  Working with us during the adoption process will give you the comfort and reassurance that your adoption will go smoothly.

ADULT ADOPTIONS
If you want to create a legally recognized parent-child relationship with a person over the age of 18, you should consider an adult adoption.  This type of adoption can formalize an existing parent/child-type relationship, assist with estate planning, and help the adopted adult access the benefits of the adopting parent (i.e. health insurance benefits).  With an adult adoption, there are no investigations needed so the timeline to finalize the process is much quicker than in other independent adoptions.

SECOND PARENT "CONFIRMATORY" ADOPTIONS

If you used assisted reproductive technology to have a child, and you were married or in a registered domestic partnership when the child was born, you should consider doing a second parent (or "confirmatory") adoption to strengthen your legal rights to your child.  This type of adoption process is streamlined so that you do not have to undergo any court/agency investigations or attend any hearings.

*If you're married or in a domestic partnership now, but you weren't at the time your child was born, you will have to go through the traditional step-parent adoption process.*

TRADITIONAL STEP-PARENT ADOPTIONS
If you're a step-parent who wishes to formalize your relationship with your step-child, a step-parent adoption may be the right choice for you.  At Grey Family Law, we only handle uncontested step-parent adoptions, which means that both biological parents and the step-parent agree to the adoption, or one of the biological parents is deceased.  This helps ensure a quicker and more amicable adoption.  We also handle second parent adoptions for couples who were not married or registered at the time their child was born.

**Grey Family Law does not take on adoption cases with ICWA (Indian Child Welfare Act), immigration, or criminal background issues.  These cases will be referred out to other qualified adoption attorneys.**
